Dear Ann & Family - I was saddened to recently hear of Jeff's passing. He was the most kind and honest auto mechanic, and it wasn't surprising to see him win "Artvoice's Best Of" in this category over the years. People simply trusted Jeff. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and your family at this difficult time. He will be missed. People like Jeff are few and far between.

Tommy, I'm sorry to hear about your brother Jeffery. Being that he was so young makes it that much harder to deal with. The last time I saw you guys Jeffery was probably about 6 or 7 years old and was referred to as your pain in the butt little brother. Unfortunately I never new Jeff as an adult but after reading thru the condolences it's clear that he turned out to be a great Guy. The best thing about being born to young parents who have even younger siblings is that you end up with this enormous network of people that have known you literally your entire life. Jeff was one of those people in my life. Jeff and my Uncle were friends, best friends. I always wanted to be with my uncle and often when I was, Jeff was there too. I have memories of hanging on his couch, learning about racing, listening to music, and I was even there when he had his first race. Another cool thing about those people that have known you for your entire life is that they spread out. They become lawyers, barbers, and auto mechanics. When I turned 16, I had a car. It was a terrible car. It broke. It broke a lot. When it did, I took it to Jeff. I can remember driving my car down the 190 with literally no brakes praying I could coast off the ramp and into his lot and lose inertia at the proper rate for the car to stop on its own without taking out a gas pump. The car stopped, my heart was beating out of my chest, I exhaled, and looked up... there was Jeff. He was having a smoke, huge grin on his face, laughing at me. I was instantly calm. I knew he would take care of it, of course he did. I'm sure he charged me, at least for the parts and not nearly what his time was worth. I assume I paid (god, I hope I paid), but I left knowing an honest man, who cared about me, had just saved my broke 16 year old butt. I remember the last time I seen Jeff. I'm embarrassed at how long ago it was. I remember exactly. I am a life long New Orleans Saints fan and it was the day of their Super Bowl parade. I was living with my Uncle Paul at the time and he came home and had to run over there so I went with. That's almost all I remember about it. That's not totally true. I remember when he looked up and realized I was there. It was the look someone gives you when they have known you your whole life. Its hard to explain, but I just knew he was looking at me and seeing a little guy crawling around my grandparents living room singing Van Halen's Jump with all the guys and that I was always welcome at his house. I never told Jeff how much I appreciated what he has done for me the last 36 years. I'm sure I said thank you each time he saved my butt with my car, I'm sure I shook his hand that last time I saw him in his kitchen, but it probably wasn't enough. I should have wrote this last week or last month or sometime before it was too late for him to read it. Rest in Peace, Jeff. Thank you so much for everything. In the words of the great Eddie Vedder, it don't seem fair...today just disappeared your light's reflected now, reflected from afar we were but stones, your light made us stars...
